Селектор АКПП используется для выбора режима работы. Обычно он находится там же, где и рычаг механической КПП (см. рис. 9). На некоторых американских автомобилях он может находиться на рулевой колонке).
Режимы АКПП, их количество и способы переключения зависят от вашего автомобиля. Обо всем этом вы сможете прочитать в руководстве по эксплуатации. Мы поговорим о том, чего там нет, а также об основных режимах (на тот случай, если вы потеряли руководство по своему автомобилю). Вот основные режимы:

• Р (parking, парковка) — нужно выбрать для длительной стоянки (когда вы планируете заглушить автомобиль и покинуть его). Не бойтесь: если селектор находится в этом положении, автомобиль никуда не укатится, даже если будет стоять на наклонной поверхности. На некоторых автомобилях запуск двигателя возможен только в этом положении. После запуска он будет работать на холостых оборотах.
• R (reverse, задний ход) — используйте этот режим для движения задним ходом. Запуск двигателя в этом положении невозможен.
• N (neutral, нейтральная передача) — обычно используется для буксировки автомобиля.
• D (drive, движение) — используется для движения вперед. Это основной режим, обеспечивающий переключение с первой по пятую передачу (на старых авто — с первой по четвертую, а дорогих новых — с первую по шестую). Обычно, кроме режима D, есть режимы 1,2,3:

1. движение только на первой передаче, нужно использовать при крутых спусках и при сильном гололеде;
2. переключение будет выполняться между первой и второй передачей, двигатель работает как бы «внатяг», не происходит переключение на другие передачи. Используется при крутых подъемах в горных дорогах, полезен также при буксировке прицепа;
3. переключение с первой по третью передачу, полезно использовать в холмистой местности с затяжными спусками и подъемами;

• S — обычно означает «sport», то есть спортивный режим. В этом режиме АКПП более динамично разгоняет автомобиль и позволяет двигателю набирать обороты до красной зоны на соответствующих приборах (но не до «отсечки»).На «мерседесе» режим S — это стандартный (standard) режим, а не спортивный, то есть обычный режим работы коробки. Кроме стандартного есть еще экономичный (Е), экономящий топливо. На BMW режим S —это настоящий спортивный режим.
