Вода, как мы знаем, жидкость несжимаемая. Когда она попадает в цилиндр двигателя, то происходит гидроудар. Конечно, от одной капли ничего страшного не будет. Автомобиль должен хорошо «нахлебаться» воды, чтобы случился гидроудар. Объем жидкости, попавшей в цилиндр, должен превысить объем камеры сгорания при положении поршня в верхней мертвой точке.
«Нахлебаться» автомобиль может, попав в крупную лужу на большой скорости, как правило, через низко расположенный воздухозаборник. На маленькой скорости вы бы могли переплыть эту лужу без последствий, потому что если бы в двигатель и попала вода, то в неопасном количестве.
Последствия гидроудара обычно плачевны — почти всегда это капитальный ремонт двигателя. Проще заменить двигатель целиком, чем восстанавливать после гидроудара. Если гидроудар, не дай Бог, случится с вашим автомобилем, то не спешите «капиталить» двигатель — может, удастся найти такой же б/у. Это обойдется значительно дешевле, даже при условии, что б/у двигатель придется вскрыть и заменить кольца (так сказать, плановый ремонт), чтобы потом все было хорошо.
Такая операция стоит дорого, не говоря уже про покупку самого двигателя, цена на который (даже б/у) может составлять несколько тысяч долларов. Как вы думаете, что лучше: притормозить перед лужей и сохранить несколько тысяч долларов или получить одноразовую дозу адреналина «на все деньги»?
